Toll – Internal Communications Network

About

Toll Group is Australia’s largest freight distributor, who required a complete internal communication network setup. Centech Group were commissioned to assist in the design and installation of said project, as well as the CCTV and security system installation and AV solutions, with over 6000 meters of fibre optic cable, connecting to twenty communication cabinets across Toll Group's entire site.

This project became a finalist in the BICSI infrastructure installation awards.

Scope

Centech Group assisted Toll Group in the design and installation of a complete internal communication and CCTV/ Security installation, with over 6000 meters of fibre optic cable, connecting to twenty communication cabinets across Toll's entire site.

Centech were engaged to carry out fibre and copper network installation on the BCS sortation systems, then implemented two multi-mode Profibus ring networks and a krone cat six copper network between the control cabinets and field devices.

This network was tuned over 2,700 outlets, within the office space and across the warehouse. Centech delivered Security and CCTV installation works, with multiple access control panels across the facility and 500 cameras, utilised for safety, traffic management and the tracking of parcels throughout the facility.

In addition, Centech designed and installed a site safety signage system where safety bulletins were able to be published on the required screens.

Centech Australia, Toll Group Case study

Approach

Centech Group gathered the requirements and scope of the project, whilst consulting with Toll’s national IT manager on implementing a custom solution. Following a custom design process, Centech designed communication cabinets specific to the project, with recommendations to implement AFC Fibre and Krone Copper Systems.

Outcome

Centech were stationed at Toll on-site, full-time and were allocated a 16 month project turnover timeline. Positioning themselves on-site gave the Centech team the capability of delivering a reactive service, from changes, redesigns and out-of the-box thinking, having management based on site, along with the on-site supervisor, became crucial when sticking to the 16 month timeline.

Daily team meetings with all on-site staff ensured that all aspects of safety were at the forefront of daily deliverables. The installation was delivered on time and met the entire process of Toll’s requirements.

This project became a finalist in the BICSI infrastructure installation awards.
